Vietnamese ceramic outdoor planters, built for Texas
About 95% of what we carry is made in Mexico. These planters are the exception, and for a good reason: Vietnamese ceramic outdoor planters are some of the strongest pots you can put on a Texas patio.

Why we bring planters from Vietnam
Vietnam has a long tradition of high-fired ceramics. The potters use a dense clay and fire it at very high temperatures, which makes the body hard and far less porous than earthenware. The walls are thick and the glaze fuses into the clay, so these planters shrug off the July sun, summer storms and the occasional hard freeze better than almost anything else we have found.
We are a Mexican imports store, and we still believe that. But when customers asked for big outdoor pots that would last for years outside in Austin, these were the answer.
Glazes and shapes
The glazes are layered and deep, often with drips and color changes where the glaze pooled in the kiln, so every planter is a little different.
- Colors: cobalt, turquoise, teal, copper and rust, glossy black, green and cream
- Tall cylinders and columns for entries and pool decks
- Round bowls and wide urns for trees and shrubs
- Square and tapered planters for modern patios
- Sizes from tabletop to taller than you
Mix them with Mexican pieces
A group of solid Vietnamese ceramic planters makes a calm backdrop for one hand-painted Talavera piece or a colorful metal sculpture. Many customers also turn one into a fountain.
Planting and care
- Check for a drainage hole and keep it clear; add a layer of gravel or a pot screen over it.
- Lift big pots onto pot feet so water drains and the base stays dry.
- These pots are heavy. Plant them where they will live, and use a dolly to move them.
- Before a hard freeze, keep the soil on the dry side; dense ceramic handles cold well, but trapped water can still crack any pot.
Vietnamese ceramic planters: common questions
Where are your ceramic outdoor planters from?
They come from Vietnam. Almost everything else in our store is made in Mexico.
Why are Vietnamese planters so strong?
They are made from a dense clay fired at very high temperatures, with thick walls and a glaze fused into the body. That makes them less porous and more durable outdoors than earthenware.
Can they stay outside all year in Austin?
Yes. They are made for outdoor use. Make sure they drain well, lift them off the ground and keep the soil on the dry side before a hard freeze.
Do you have large sizes?
Yes, from tabletop planters to tall floor pots and wide urns. Stock changes often, so call (512) 704-6318 or stop by the yard.
Can you help me load them?
Yes. They are heavy, so we will help you load them. Bring a truck or SUV for the large ones.
Come walk the yard.
